From 12.-14.11 around 30 early-career researchers of SFB 1177 gathered for three intensive days at Kloster Schöntal . The retreat provided an excellent opportunity for personal exchange, in-depth project discussions, and generating new ideas for future research. A highlight of the retreat were the two workshops, in which the participants engaged with great enthusiasm. Storytelling for Scientists , led by Karin Bodewits, provided the participants with practical techniques t

SFB 1177 PI Claudine Kraft awarded ERC Synergy Grant
The project “DegrAbility: On the Degradability of Protein Aggregates by Autophagy” , led by SFB 1177 PI Claudine Kraft (University of Freiburg), together with James Hurley (UC Berkeley) and Sascha Martens (University of Vienna), has been awarded a prestigious €10 million ERC Synergy Grant. The project addresses a central question in cellular biology: why autophagy fails to clear large protein aggregates. Such aggregates accumulate during ageing and in neurodegenerative diseas
