Dr. Lina Herhaus, principal investigator and head of the junior research group Immune Signaling at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), has been awarded an Exploration Grant from the Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung. The grant, starting in March 2026, provides more than €200,000 over two years to support exploratory research in the life sciences.
In October 2025, Dr. Herhaus also received the Walther Flemming Award from the German Society for Cell Biology (DGZ) and ibidi GmbH, recognizing outstanding contributions by early-career researchers in cell biology.
Herhaus’ group studies how the immune system detects and responds to infections and inflammation, focusing on the molecular mechanisms that underpin cellular defence against pathogens. The new funding will support further investigation of these processes, particularly in the context of bacterial infections.
